Master Gardeners of Niagara yearly commitments and activities

1.  LIBRARY PROGRAMMES:

2.  Rice Road Greenhouses, 1361 Rice Road, Fonthill.

Dates: May 4,11,18,25th & June 1/2024

Two hour sessions from 10 to 12, and 12 to 2. (two Master Gardeners per session required). Assisting the public in the garden centre regarding planting, planning, designing, etc.

 Shaw Guild Garden Tour, Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Attending the gardens on the tour and helping the public with any questions on the individual gardens that are selected.

4. Hotline Gardening Advice

Answering your horticultural questions weekly for entire year

5. Hospice Niagara, St. Catharines.

Four times a year March, June, September, December. (To be determined in 2024)

Three members demonstrate planting or making cactus dishes, flowers in cups, or small items to be taken home with the participants. Each demonstration lasts about 2 hours.

6. Niagara Parks, School of Horticulture (Hands On)

Depending on seasonal requirements having Hands On once a month in the Niagara Botanical Gardens. This involves planting seeds, bulbs and plants along with various pruning activities.

7. Plant Sale Fundraiser, Vineland Research Centre ,4890 Victoria North, Lincoln 

September 7, 2024. 9 AM – 12 PM

Members are asked to pot up plants either from the previous fall or in the spring of the year of the plant sale. (Minimum of 10 plants).

Members  volunteer on the Friday for set-up, pricing and arrangement of plants. On Saturday members  sell the plants to the public and answer any questions. This is one of our major fundraisers.

8. Monthly MG Meetings, Rittenhouse Hall, Vineland Research Centre 

Second Thursday each month, (except June, July, August).

General meeting for all members, and also the public are invited to attend. Interesting speakers each month with various topics, (trees, plants, bees, pesticides, etc.).

9. Seed Exchange:

This is a seed exchange event where varieties of  seeds are swapped and shared between participants. There are also speakers, numerous vendors and activities for children.
